Item Description

Nero's right arm is the whole pitch. The Devil Bringer is a glowing demonic limb that can yank enemies across a room, slam them into the floor or grab a giant boss and throw it around in a cinematic Buster move unique to each fight. Add the Red Queen, a sword with a motorcycle-style throttle you rev to charge its attacks, and the double-barreled Blue Rose revolver, and Devil May Cry 4 gives its new hero a toolkit that feels wildly different from anything Dante had before.

Nero is a young knight of the Order of the Sword, a religious order in the island city of Fortuna that worships Sparda, the legendary demon who turned against hell. When Dante bursts into a ceremony and kills the Order's leader, Sanctus, Nero is drawn into a conspiracy that pulls in his friend Kyrie, her brother Credo and the unsettling scientist Agnus. The setting is gorgeous: snowy mountain paths, a gothic castle and a sunlit coastal town give the action plenty of grand stages, and bosses like the fiery Berial, the frog-like Bael and the plant-serpent Echidna are as huge as they are flashy.

Dante takes over for the second half, and this is where veterans light up. For the first time, he can switch between his fighting styles on the fly, Trickster, Swordmaster, Gunslinger and Royal Guard, mid-combo, and his new weapons include Pandora, a briefcase that transforms into a whole arsenal, and Lucifer, which hurls exploding swords. Mixing styles and weapons into one seamless combo is the deepest combat in the series up to that point.

Directed by Hideaki Itsuno, Devil May Cry 4 was the series' first entry for the HD generation and its first release on a non-PlayStation console, arriving on PS3 alongside Xbox 360. Critics noted that Dante's half retraces many of Nero's areas, but the combat earned high praise, and Nero went on to co-star in Devil May Cry 5. This is where his story begins, and where Dante's combat reached a new level of style.
