Deadpool opens the way only Deadpool could: High Moon Studios has turned down Wade Wilson's pitch for the most awesome game ever, so he sets off explosives at the studio until they agree to make it. That sets the tone for High Moon's action game, a loud, crude, gleefully self-aware romp that treats the Merc with a Mouth's habit of breaking the fourth wall as a core feature rather than a running gag. Nolan North voices Wade, the two voices in his head never stop bickering with him, and the script by longtime Deadpool comic writer Daniel Way takes shots at superheroes, video game clichés and the very game you are playing.
The plot, such as it is, begins with a contract on a corrupt media mogul and spirals once Mister Sinister steals the kill. Deadpool's revenge tour drags in Wolverine, Rogue, Domino and Cable, a buddy from the future, and pits him against Sinister's Marauders, Arclight, Blockbuster and Vertigo. It is a cast pulled straight from the X-Men corner of the Marvel universe, and the game has a lot of fun throwing its least serious hero into the middle of their very serious business.
Underneath the jokes is a combo-driven brawler with a shooter bolted on. Katanas, giant hammers and other blades chain into fast melee strings, guns up to plasma weapons handle anyone at range, and a short-range teleport lets Deadpool blink out of danger and straight back into the fight. Points earned in combat buy new weapons, upgrades and combos, so the arsenal keeps growing as the jokes keep coming. It is not the deepest action game of its era, and critics were split at launch, but the pace never lets up and the set pieces keep finding new ways to be ridiculous.
Deadpool has also had an unusual afterlife. It was pulled from digital stores, returned in 2015 with new PS4 and Xbox One versions, and was delisted again in 2017, which has made the physical release the main way to play it. Now that the films have turned the character into a household name, this PS4 edition is the modern-hardware home for the rare licensed game that sounds exactly like its comic: rude, scattershot and impossible to take seriously.

About the game
In Deadpool the player takes control of the loud-mouthed, foul-mouthed, merc-with-a-mouth Wade Wilson (a.k.a. Deadpool). While on out on a contract to kill a corrupt media mogul, Mister Sinister intervenes and kills him instead, drawing the ire of Deadpool who then vows revenge only to stumble upon a bigger plot which could spell the end of humanity. With the help of some of the X-Men such as Wolverine, Rogue and Domino along with a buddy from the future, Cable, they band together to stop Mister Sinister and his group of Marauders (Arclight, Blockbuster and Vertigo) from succeeding.
