Item Description

Seventy-two hours, one shopping mall, thousands of zombies, and nearly everything on the shelves can be swung, thrown or ridden. Dead Rising was Capcom's gleefully chaotic 2006 Xbox 360 hit, and Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster brings Frank West's first assignment to PS5 in 2024 with a full graphical overhaul that makes the Willamette Parkview Mall look better than ever.

Frank is a photojournalist chasing a scoop who talks his way onto a helicopter into Willamette, Colorado, and gets dropped on the mall roof with three days until his ride returns. What follows is a sandbox of absurd survival: bash the undead with benches, guitars, lawnmowers and shopping carts, dress Frank in whatever the clothing stores have in stock, and snap photos that earn experience for horror, drama and pure slapstick. All the while the clock keeps running, and the cases that unravel the outbreak happen on a strict schedule whether you show up or not.

That pressure is the genius of the design. Survivors are hiding throughout the mall and need escorting to safety, and Psychopaths, such as Adam the clown with his pair of chainsaws and Cletus the gun shop owner, guard the way. Every hour spent rescuing someone or goofing off in the food court is an hour not spent on the investigation, and the ending you reach depends on how much of the truth you uncover in time. Earn the best one and Overtime mode opens up, pushing the story toward its true conclusion.

The remaster keeps that structure intact while sanding down its sharpest edges. Auto-saves, full voice acting and a range of quality-of-life changes, including the ability to move while aiming, make it far more approachable than the original's notoriously harsh save system, without losing the tension that makes Willamette so memorable. It is the best way to meet Frank West today, and he has covered wars, you know.
