Item Description
Sandra Everingham's Dark Ritual painting is one of the original pieces of Magic art, and it carried straight from the game's very first sets into Fourth Edition. For a whole generation of players who started in the mid-1990s, this is the version they remember: the ritual that turned one Swamp into a surprise threat before turn two.
The card itself has not aged a day. One black mana becomes three on the spot, so a single card lets a black deck skip ahead of the curve, landing an early creature, a punishing discard spell, or a combo piece while the opponent is still finding lands. It shows up in a huge number of black Commander decks today, and the old art makes it a charming way to play it.
This is the Fourth Edition printing, collector number 129, a non-foil common illustrated by Sandra Everingham. Fourth Edition was the 1995 core set that put Magic in front of a wave of new players, and this card is a direct link to that era.
