Our grade: Near Mint. Pictured: this printing of the card. Every card ships triple-sleeved — a soft sleeve, a deck sleeve and a rigid top loader.
Item Description
Crystal Barricade is a two-mana wall that protects far more than the space in front of it. The 0/4 artifact creature has defender, gives you hexproof so opponents' spells and abilities can't target you, and prevents all noncombat damage that would be dealt to your other creatures. That means burn spells, pingers and damage-based sweepers suddenly whiff against your board.
The applications are wonderfully broad. Go-wide token decks can shrug off an Earthquake or Pyroclasm effect that would otherwise wipe their whole board, and fragile utility creatures stop dying to a stray point of damage. Player hexproof shuts down targeted discard, targeted life drain and other spells that point at you. In Commander it is a cheap defensive piece for white token, creature or group-hug decks, and its sturdy 0/4 body blocks early attackers while it does its real job. It also opens up one-sided sweeps: your own damage-based board wipes can clear the table while your other creatures walk away untouched.
This is the Foundations printing, collector number 7, illustrated by Rockey Chen, in non-foil.
