Item Description
Crash Bandicoot Action Pack is a 2007 PlayStation 2 compilation that gathers three of the series' PlayStation 2 games in one package: Crash Nitro Kart, Crash Twinsanity and Crash Tag Team Racing. Released in North America in June 2007, it covers the wisecracking marsupial's years after the original PlayStation trilogy. Crash as a franchise helped define a generation of 3D platformers, and the irreverent, cartoon-soaked personality that made him one of PlayStation's best-loved mascots runs through all three games here.
Crash Twinsanity (2004), developed by Traveller's Tales Oxford, is the platformer of the set. Crash and his old nemesis Doctor Neo Cortex have to put their rivalry aside to stop the Evil Twins, a pair of interdimensional parrots, from destroying the islands. It trades the hub-room structure of earlier entries for free-roaming levels, lets you control Crash, Cortex or Nina Cortex, or the bickering pair together, and breaks up the platforming with special sequences such as HumiliSkate, Doc Amok and RollerBrawl. Its soundtrack was composed and performed by the a cappella group Spiralmouth.
The other two games are racers. Crash Nitro Kart (2003), from Vicarious Visions, has Emperor Velo XXVII abduct Crash's and Cortex's teams and force them to race in his coliseum, with an Adventure mode spanning five worlds plus cup tournaments, time trials and arena battle modes. Crash Tag Team Racing (2005), from Radical Entertainment, mixes kart racing with platforming: Crash explores Von Clutch's MotorWorld theme park on foot between events, and its signature clash move lets two racers fuse their vehicles into a turret-armed hybrid, one driving while the other fires.
Between a free-roaming platform adventure, a traditional kart racer and an inventive racing-platformer hybrid, both racers with multiplayer, it is a full evening of Crash Bandicoot from the series' PlayStation 2 years.
