Item Description
An Assassin never wants to be seen coming, and Cover of Darkness makes sure an entire army isn't. For two mana, this black enchantment has you choose a creature type as it enters, and every creature of that type gains fear, meaning it can't be blocked except by artifact creatures and black creatures.
Against any opponent who isn't playing black, that is close to a free pass for your whole team. Tribal Commander decks get the most out of it: Goblins, Elves, Zombies or Assassins can flood the board and then attack past blockers that suddenly don't matter. Because it names a type rather than a color, it also works in decks that only splash black, and it gets better the wider your board grows. The card first appeared in Onslaught, Magic's original creature-type block, and its return in the Assassin's Creed set gave tribal players a new way to pick it up.
This is the Assassin's Creed printing, collector number 89, a foil rare illustrated by Paulius Daščioras. Its flavor text casts the night itself as an Assassin's most dependable ally, a perfect match for a stealth card in a Universes Beyond set built around the franchise's hooded heroes.
