You play as Alyssa Hamilton, a fifteen-year-old girl who discovers she is descended from a line of women called Rouvres — hunters tasked with stopping malevolent spirits known as Subordinates. The gameplay loop puts you in a near-constant state of vulnerability. You cannot simply fight your way through. Running, hiding, and holding your nerve while monstrous pursuers stalk you through detailed, shadow-drenched environments is the core of the experience. The tension the game builds around its pursuit sequences is genuinely effective — few PS2 horror titles made being chased feel this uncomfortable.

Visually, Clock Tower 3 leans into a gothic aesthetic that holds up well even today, with ornate environments and enemy designs that have real menace to them.
