Item Description

C.A.R.D.S. RPG: The Misty Battlefield asks what happens when a strategy RPG and a Slay the Spire-style deckbuilder share the same war. Your squad advances across a map shrouded in fog, where icons hint at enemies, treasure and items that only reveal their details as you close in. When fighting breaks out, the map gives way to the cards: you draw a hand, spend action points on attacks and defensive setups, then brace for the enemy's reply, and each clash wraps up after three rounds whether or not anyone has fallen. Every victory and looted chest adds new cards to your deck, so your army's tactics grow out of whatever you find in the mist.

The story is set as the 100 Years' War, a conflict among seventeen nations, ends in catastrophe: a jet-black dragon lays waste to a kingdom. That dragon turns out to be a chimera, engineered by the nation of Fahftania and the Hellmuth Brigade at the cost of thousands of lives, and Captain Vel Dina leads the Clausewitz Battalion to march on Fahftania, only to find the whole country under the Brigade's control. Heavy knights, rogues and nimble swordsmen each bring different strengths to the fight, and items gathered on the battlefield can reshape their stats as the campaign wears on.

The game comes from ACQUIRE, the Japanese studio that co-developed Octopath Traveler, and was first released in 2024. Aksys Games' Total Warfare Edition brings it to retail with all of its DLC and updates, which expand the card pool to more than 100 varieties and add a Mini-Game mode where you guide a single unit across a grid map, upgrading and choosing your route and cards within a limited number of turns before facing the boss. Digitally Downloaded praised its crisp sprites, rich colors and slick battle animations and called the core concept brilliant. It is a fresh hybrid for players who enjoy Fire Emblem-style positioning and the one-more-battle pull of a deckbuilder, here in its most complete version.
