Item Description

Seven playable characters, four campaigns and a bioterror outbreak that spans three continents: Biohazard 6, known in the West as Resident Evil 6, is Capcom going for broke. This is the Japanese Xbox 360 release, carrying the series' original Biohazard name, and it is the most ambitious, divisive and spectacle-heavy game the numbered series ever produced.

The campaigns each have their own personality. Leon S. Kennedy and Secret Service agent Helena Harper open with the closest thing to classic survival horror, fighting through the zombie-overrun city of Tall Oaks after an outbreak tears through a presidential visit. Chris Redfield and his young lieutenant Piers Nivans fight a full military campaign against the C-virus's mutating J'avo across Eastern Europe and the Chinese city of Lanshiang. Jake Muller, the son of Albert Wesker, teams with a grown-up Sherry Birkin to survive the relentless stalker Ustanak, and Ada Wong's campaign, unlocked after the others, fills in the gaps between them.

Under the hood, this is the fastest Resident Evil ever made. You can finally move while aiming, slide, dive and roll, and a contextual melee system lets you chain punches and kicks between shots. The stories intersect at key moments, with the characters' paths crossing for joint battles that were designed so that online players could take over the other pair. Partners can be swapped in for split-screen co-op, and the score-chasing Mercenaries mode returns for anyone who loves a timer and a horde. The Neo-Umbrella conspiracy and the C-virus's grotesque mutations give the bosses a wild, shape-shifting quality.

Reviews were mixed, with critics split over how far it leaned into action, but it sold strongly and has a vocal following that loves its variety and its co-op. It was the last numbered entry before Capcom pulled the series back toward horror with Resident Evil 7, which makes it the high-water mark of the series' action era. The Japanese Biohazard packaging and artwork give it real import appeal for collectors chasing regional variants of Capcom's flagship series.

About the game

Resident Evil 6 is the ninth video game installment in the Resident Evil series. It continues the struggle against zombies infected by the new highly virulent C-virus. The game uses the same over-the-shoulder view as Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil 5, however with a new gameplay mechanic that allows players to slowly move while shoot. Players can select between three scenarios featuring multiple characters and intertwined storylines, and within these scenarios both stories and action cross paths. At key moments during the game, up to four players can join together online to tackle a specific situation, with some stages seeing the usual partnerships swapped to further increase the depth of gameplay.
