Item Description
Barnyard is the PlayStation 2 game based on the 2006 Nickelodeon animated film, developed by Blue Tongue Entertainment and published by THQ. Rather than stepping into the hooves of a movie character, you play as a newcomer to the farm, a cow who can be male or female, and join Otis and the barnyard crew in a world where the animals stand up and party the moment the humans are not looking. The game expands well beyond the movie's plot across nine chapters, with missions that arrive as text messages, plenty of pranks, and the kind of irreverent humor that defined the film.
What makes Barnyard more memorable than the average movie tie-in is its sense of freedom. Rather than railroading you through cutscene after cutscene, the game lets you roam the farm, discover secrets and cause bovine chaos at your own pace, riding an upgradable bike around the barnyard while a day-and-night clock decides when some missions are available. Completed missions often turn into replayable minigames, from golf to Tease the Mailman, the Night Barn hosts the parties, and the Gopher Underground shop lets you customize the barn. Collecting Stars and climbing the leaderboard earns the title of Barnyard Champion.
The cast's personality carries over from the screen with enough energy to keep kids, and nostalgic adults, entertained, and the game holds up as a cheerful time capsule of mid-2000s licensed gaming and Nickelodeon's movie era.
