Item Description

Turtle Rock Studios invented the modern four-player zombie shooter with Left 4 Dead, and Back 4 Blood is that same team returning to the genre more than a decade later with a fresh twist: a deck of cards. You play as the Cleaners, a squad of hardened survivors including Holly, Walker, Evangelo, Hoffman, Doc and Mom, fighting to reclaim a world overrun by the Ridden, humans transformed by a parasite called the Devil Worm.

The card system is what makes every run different. Before each mission you build a deck of perks that shape your Cleaner, stacking bonuses for stamina, healing, ammo, melee power or team support, and you draw from it as the campaign goes on. The game's director fights back with Corruption Cards that can drop fog over a level, add hordes, spawn extra mutations or seed the area with Snitchers, shrieking birds that bring the swarm down on you. Building a melee berserker or a support medic around your cards is half the fun.

The Ridden come in nasty varieties. Tallboys and Crushers smash through the line, Hockers pin you down with sticky spit, Reekers burst into clouds of goo, and enormous Ogres and Breakers turn some levels into boss fights. Between missions the squad regroups at Fort Hope, and a copper economy lets you buy weapon attachments and supplies in each safe room. The campaign was built for four-player co-op, with AI bots filling empty seats, and it also included Swarm, a competitive mode that put players on the side of the Ridden.

Back 4 Blood is the closest thing there is to a modern Left 4 Dead sequel, with the same frantic pacing, shared panic and gallows humor, plus a strategic layer the older games never had. For a release sold as the Deck of Cards Bundle, it is fitting that cards are what set Back 4 Blood apart from every other horde shooter of its generation.
