The moment Attack on Titan games get right is the swing: the hiss of gas, the snap of a grappling anchor biting into a building, and a blur of motion as you whip around a Titan's leg and climb toward the nape. Attack on Titan 2: Final Battle takes that feeling and pushes it further than any other version of the game, carrying Koei Tecmo's adaptation into the story of the anime's third season.

Final Battle builds on the full Attack on Titan 2 experience, which retells the first two seasons through the eyes of a soldier you create yourself, and layers new content on top. Story episodes adapted from Season 3, Parts 1 and 2 follow the Scout Regiment as the enemy turns human, with Kenny Ackerman and his Anti-Personnel Control Squad hunting Eren and Historia inside the walls. Five new playable characters join the roster, Kenny, Floch, Nifa, Traute and Zeke, so the game finally covers the conspiracies and betrayals that made Season 3 such a turning point for the series.

The biggest gameplay additions change how you fight. Alongside the familiar blades, Shooting Gear swaps swords for guns, with one-handed shots that are easier to aim and dodge with and two-handed blasts that hit far harder. The Thunder Spear can drop a Titan in a single explosive strike, and a new Territory Recovery mode has you form your own corps, name it, design its emblem and lead it on campaigns outside the walls, switching between base life, crafting and upgrades, and full-scale expeditions.

Developed by Omega Force, the studio behind Dynasty Warriors, it keeps the series' Japanese voice cast and its devotion to the source, from relationship-building with your squad between missions to the dread of a Titan looming over the rooftops. For fans of the anime, this is the edition that tells the most of the story, and the one that adds the gear the later seasons made famous. It is the complete version of Attack on Titan 2 to own on PlayStation 4.

The Anti-Personnel Control Squad, led by the notorious Kenny Ackerman, is set on capturing Eren and Historia – no matter the cost. The Scout Regiment sets out to save their teammates, but they quickly learn that they cannot trust anyone within the walls they call home.
