Item Description

Ezio Auditore has barely caught his breath when Cesare Borgia's cannons tear through the walls of Monteriggioni, and everything he built in Assassin's Creed II goes up in smoke. Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood picks up in that exact moment and sends Ezio to Rome, the beating heart of Borgia power, to rebuild the Assassin order from the rooftops up. Ubisoft Montreal's 2010 follow-up is a sequel in the truest sense, keeping the same hero and setting him loose in the series' densest, most ambitious city yet.

The title says it all. As you liberate districts by burning down Borgia towers, you can rescue citizens and recruit them as assassins, then send them on contracts across Europe to earn experience and gear. In the field, a single button press calls them in to drop a guard from nowhere, and with enough recruits on hand they can rain arrows across an entire courtyard. It gives the formula a layer of strategy its predecessor lacked, and few things in the series feel better than watching your own hooded apprentices clear a path.

Rome itself is the other star. Ezio can renovate the city by buying shops, restoring aqueducts and reclaiming landmarks, ride horses through its streets for the first time in the series, and dig into Leonardo da Vinci's war machines in a set of memorable side missions. Optional full synchronization goals reward replaying missions with style, and the modern-day story continues to build Desmond Miles's thread from inside the Assassins' hideout at Monteriggioni, all set to another moody Jesper Kyd score.

Brotherhood also introduced the series' first multiplayer mode, a cat-and-mouse game of disguises and patience that was unlike anything else on the Xbox 360 at the time. Many fans consider this the high point of the Ezio trilogy, the moment the series' Renaissance era felt richest and most confident, and it is the bridge between Assassin's Creed II and Revelations that no Ezio playthrough should skip.
