Item Description
Few open worlds feel as sunlit and limitless as the one in Assassin's Creed Odyssey. Set in 431 BCE at the outbreak of the Peloponnesian War, it casts you as a Spartan-born mercenary, either Alexios or Kassandra, carrying the broken Spear of Leonidas and relying on the eagle Ikaros as a scout. From the marble streets of Athens to the hills of the Peloponnese and dozens of islands scattered across the Aegean, Ubisoft Quebec built a version of ancient Greece that rewards wandering as much as following the main path.
Odyssey pushes the series further into full role-playing than ever before. Dialogue choices shape relationships, romances and the fate of whole communities, and the misthios's personal story, a family torn apart by Sparta and hunted by the shadowy Cult of Kosmos, branches toward multiple endings. Combat draws on Hunter, Warrior and Assassin skill trees, including the Spartan Kick, which sends enemies flying off cliffs and never stops being satisfying. Cause too much trouble and bounty-hunting mercenaries come after you, while conquest battles let you throw your sword behind Athens or Sparta in huge clashes for control of a region.
The sea matters as much as the land. As captain of the Adrestia, with the warm-hearted Barnabas at your side, you recruit lieutenants, upgrade the ship and fight naval battles in the tradition of Black Flag. Along the way you cross paths with Sokrates, Perikles, Herodotos and Hippokrates, and the deeper quest lines lead to encounters with creatures of Greek myth, from Medusa to the Minotaur.
Arriving a year after Origins reinvented the series as an open-world RPG, Odyssey doubled down on that direction and set the template the later games built on. On the Xbox One it is a world that can absorb dozens of hours without running dry, and the choice between Alexios and Kassandra, with Kassandra a favorite for many players, gives you a strong reason to sail back for a second voyage.
