Armored Core: Nexus finally let Ravens pilot with two sticks. It was the first game in the franchise to support dual analog control, splitting movement and aiming the way modern players expect, and reviewers singled out that change as the one the series had been waiting for. In a franchise built around boosting, strafing and lock-on duels, moving the camera off the shoulder buttons and onto a stick changes how every fight feels. It also arrived as an unusually generous two-disc package from FromSoftware.
Disc one, Evolution, carries the main story, set 55 years after the events of Silent Line. A new corporation, Navis, has taken control of a valuable ancient technology and refuses to share it, pulling Mirage, Crest and Kisaragi into a fresh war fought through mercenary contracts brokered by Raven's Ark, which has replaced the old Global Cortex. Betrayals pile up, long-buried weapons systems wake, and the campaign leans into the series' signature blend of corporate intrigue and mounting dread.
Disc two, Revolution, revisits missions from earlier games in the series, rebuilt for Nexus-era machines, which makes it a greatest-hits tour of Armored Core history and a chance to replay older scenarios with the new controls. Underneath both discs sits the obsessive garage that defines the franchise: hundreds of parts and items, mission expenses deducted from every payout, and endless tuning to find a build that suits your style. Multiplayer was designed for two-player split screen or i.LINK battles, with a new LAN mode for up to four players.
Critics gave it solid marks, with GameSpot at 7.7, praising the analog controls and customization while warning that the series could be tough on newcomers. That is fair, and also the point: Nexus is a deep, demanding mech game that rewards the hours you put into the hangar, and the bridge between the AC3 and Silent Line era and the later Last Raven.
Years have passed since the incident at the Silent Line, and with it the collaborative effort began by the Corporations in response to it is long gone. The battle between the Corporations has re-emerged and continues unabated. Now a new Corporation has entered the scene; this Corporation, Navis, while nowhere near the size of the other Corporations, does have a trump card; it has complete control over a brand new and very useful resource, and they do not intend to share. The other Corporations obviously will not sit back and let that stand, so they set up contracts with Ravens through Raven's Ark. Of course, Navis is employing the use of the Ravens as well, and a full-scale conflict seems apparent on the horizon. Once again, you are thrust into the lines of corporate warfare, but does something even more dangerous lie in wait? It is the sequel to Silent Line: Armored Core.
