You have less than a month left. The terraforming colony you came to build has failed, everyone else is dead, the planet is tearing itself apart and the last escape pod does not work. The only voice left is the colony's AI, and its plan is unsettling: rebuild the specialists who could have saved you as holographic simulations, and ask them for help.
That premise drives Alone With You, a sci-fi adventure from Benjamin Rivers, the developer behind the cult horror game Home. Each day you head out into a different corner of the ruined settlement, exploring, gathering data and solving small puzzles. Each night you step into the Holo-sim Chamber to talk with the recreated colonists, people who are not entirely sure their memories are real, and what you found during the day shapes what you can discuss. Dialogue choices steer the tone of those conversations, and the game is open about the fact that a little romance is on the table.
The presentation is striking: a surreal, retro pixel style whose opening drew comparisons to the early-'90s cinematic adventure Another World, carried by a score that moves between bleak and dreamlike, with 5.1 surround support for the full effect. A first playthrough runs around seven hours over roughly three in-game weeks, and different conversation paths give a reason to return.
It was funded through Sony's PubFund program and launched as a PlayStation 4 and Vita exclusive, so it never had the visibility of bigger releases. That is exactly why it is worth discovering: a small, character-driven story about loneliness and connection, built for players who would rather talk to the dead than shoot at aliens, and a physical PS4 release of a narrative indie that most people only ever saw as a download.

Your planet will crumble and implode in less than a month, and you must use your remaining time to try to escape. The catch? There is only one escape pod left, and it isn’t functioning. Even worse, the only people who specialized in its systems are all dead from the colony’s mysterious failure. But the colony’s AI is still with you, and together you plan to get yourselves off the planet—by recreating those key colony members and learning how to fix the ship, so you can both flee to safety. Alone With You is a Sony PubFund game and is launching exclusively on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita.
