Item Description
Alesha, Who Laughs at Fate gets better every time she swings. She's a three-mana 2/2 with first strike, and whenever she attacks she gets a +1/+1 counter, so she's a 3/3 on her first attack, a 4/4 on the next, and still climbing. Then raid kicks in: at the beginning of your end step, if you attacked that turn, you return a creature card with mana value less than or equal to her power from your graveyard to the battlefield.
That rising ceiling is the fun of building around her. Early on she's bringing back one- and two-drops; a few attacks later she can return four- and five-mana threats every single turn. In Commander she leads black-red decks full of creatures that are happy to die, sacrifice outlets, and value creatures with enter-the-battlefield effects, and in the 99 she turns every combat into recursion. First strike helps her survive those attacks long enough to keep the engine running.
This is the Foundations printing, collector number 115, illustrated by Ekaterina Burmak, offered here in non-foil. She's a newer take on the Mardu warrior Magic players first met on Tarkir, still laughing in the face of whatever the graveyard throws back.
