Game only: the cartridge in a protective holder, no box or manual. For the specifics, look to the photos — they're of this exact cartridge. Every cartridge's shell, label and board are checked for authenticity when it comes into the store, and it's tested before it's listed. It ships in a collector's bag or a hard plastic case.
Few moments in Zelda history hit like the first trip into the Dark World. The Hyrule you have just learned by heart suddenly turns into a corrupted mirror image of itself, and Link arrives as a pink rabbit until he finds the Moon Pearl. A Link to the Past built its entire adventure around that idea, and this Game Boy Advance edition puts Nintendo's Super NES masterpiece in your hands with everything that made it great intact.
The quest opens on a stormy night, with Link answering Princess Zelda's telepathic plea and slipping into Hyrule Castle to stop the wizard Agahnim. From there it unfolds into the template the series would follow for decades: three pendants to earn the Master Sword, then a descent through the Dark World's dungeons to free the seven maidens and confront Ganon. The hookshot, the Pegasus Boots, the Ice Rod, the Cane of Somaria and the Magic Mirror for slipping between worlds each change how you read the map, and the way the Light and Dark World layouts interlock is still a masterclass in adventure-game puzzle design.
The GBA release adds touches of its own. Link gains a voice, with battle cries and grunts that were never in the Super NES version, and the cartridge pairs the adventure with Four Swords, a brand-new multiplayer Zelda designed for two to four players over the link cable, each with their own copy. Finishing both Four Swords and the main quest opens the Palace of the Four Sword, a bonus dungeon exclusive to this version that tests everything you have learned. The sprite art reads crisply on the small screen, and Koji Kondo's score, from the Hyrule Castle march to the haunting Dark World theme, still sounds wonderful on the handheld.
This is the 16-bit Zelda that set the shape of the series, a structure that echoes through later classics and that A Link Between Worlds returned to directly by revisiting this very Hyrule. On the GBA it becomes a go-anywhere edition of one of the greatest games ever made, with an extra dungeon the Super NES never had, which makes it an easy choice if you want A Link to the Past on original Nintendo hardware.
The Game Boy Advance port of A Link to the Past has some small design differences with the original version, like Link's voice and an additional quest and dungeon unlocked after the completion of the main content. The new dungeon is only available after finishing Four Swords.
