Game only: the cartridge in a protective holder, no box or manual. The cartridge label has visible damage and wear. Look over the photos for condition, packaging and details. Every cartridge's shell, label and board are checked for authenticity when it comes into the store, and it's tested before it's listed. It ships in a collector's bag or a hard plastic case.
Leaping from a speeding enemy train into a fighter plane and then dueling the Red Baron in the skies over Europe is not the Indiana Jones adventure most people picture, and that is exactly what makes Young Indiana Jones Chronicles such an interesting cartridge. Based on George Lucas's television series about Indy's early years, Jaleco's 1992 NES game trades ancient relics for the chaos of the Mexican Revolution and the First World War, with a young Indy setting out to stop the Kaiser's war machine almost single-handedly.
The journey starts in Mexico, where Indy crosses paths with Pancho Villa and explores an abandoned silver mine, then moves across the battlefields of France to Germany, where the German High Command's fortress, a weapons facility and a poison gas lab wait at the end. Along the way he takes on a giant tank, the long-range Big Bertha gun on a mountainside and villains known as the Claw and the Jackal, and the box promises a team-up with Canadian flying ace Billy Bishop for that showdown with the Red Baron. Every stage ends in a boss fight.
The systems are unusual for a licensed platformer. Indy starts with only his trademark whip, and whatever weapon he picks up replaces it, from daggers and dynamite to grenades and guns. Those possessions double as his health: every hit knocks one loose, and once he is empty-handed he is down to his fists with no margin left. Breaking open boxes for gold, gear and a fresh weapon becomes a constant, tense calculation that gives the game a scrappy, survival feel.
It is a tough game, and reviews reflected that. Nintendo Power praised its variety of action while knocking the graphics and controls, and AllGame later singled out the difficulty. What it offers in return is a side of Indiana Jones the films never touched, with real wartime history and historical figures woven through every stage. On a shelf of Indy games it is the outlier that tells a completely different story, and a stiff challenge for players who like their NES action demanding.
Here is your chance to become Young Indiana Jones, as you set out to single-handedly save the world from the Kaiser's war machine. In this World War I epic, you'll battle through 19 stages of globe-spanning action, from the deserts of Mexico to the trenches on the Western front to the heart of the German headquarters. You'll take on Pancho Villa and Big Bertha, battle tanks and tri-planes and team up with Canadian flying ace Billy Bishop in a dogfight against the Red Baron.
