Item Description
For a quarter of a century, Worms meant taking turns: line up the bazooka, check the wind, and watch your shot sail into the sea. Worms Rumble throws that patience out of the window. Team17's spin-off is the first Worms game built around real-time combat, dropping up to 32 players into arenas where everyone is moving, shooting and swinging around at once.
The chaos is still unmistakably Worms. Jetpacks and grappling hooks keep the action vertical, and the arsenal mixes series flavor with new toys, from Sheep Launchers to Plasma Blasters and deployable Sentry Turrets. Matches come in three flavors: Death Match for straight-up scrapping, Last Worm Standing for battle royale survival, and Last Squad Standing for team play. Cross-play was part of the design from the start, so the player pool spanned consoles and PC.
Rumble launched on PC and PlayStation in December 2020 and reached Xbox Series X|S in June 2021, followed weeks later by the Fully Loaded Edition, the game's physical release. Reviews were mixed to positive: critics enjoyed the frantic real-time fun and the map design while wishing there was more content, and the Xbox Series version drew some of its best scores.
Because the game was built entirely around online multiplayer, its appeal today is as a curious branch of the Worms family tree, the one experiment where Team17 tried to turn its artillery series into a fast-paced arena shooter. For Worms collectors, it is the disc that shows just how far the formula could be stretched.
