Item Description
Few things capture the mid-2000s quite like televised poker, when hole-card cameras and late-night final tables turned Texas Hold'em into prime-time entertainment and everyone seemed to have a chip set in the closet. World Poker Tour for the Game Boy Advance put that boom in your pocket in 2005, under the banner of the TV circuit that helped light the fuse.
The career mode is the main event. You create your own player and climb the ranks against tougher opponents, earning experience at every table, building up career winnings and spending your bankroll on flashy accessories for your character. Tournament-style Texas Hold'em, the game the World Poker Tour made famous on television, is the star of the show, and every hand is a chance to push your character a little further up the ladder.
A handheld suits a card game like this. A few hands fit neatly into a lunch break or a long car ride, and managing a chip stack, picking your spots and knowing when to fold all translate well to the GBA's buttons. It is more of a breezy poker fix than a training tool for serious grinders, and the fun is in chasing a big stack up the career ladder. It is a lively time capsule of the poker craze and a natural fit on a shelf of GBA card and casino games.
