Item Description
An emperor walls himself inside the temple he raised for the woman he loved, his people flee, and the city he built fills with criminals and creatures. That is where Warriors of the Lost Empire picks up, a compact hack-and-slash dungeon crawler released in Japan as Lost Regnum and brought to North America by UFO Interactive. You play a mercenary hired by the Roman Empire to find out what happened to Emperor Hadrianus, and the search leads through dungeon after dungeon in and around his abandoned city.
Four heroes are available, from a traditional melee warrior to an Amazon who fights entirely with the bow. Every character is locked to one main weapon type but can carry any secondary weapon, so builds start to drift apart quickly. Each hero has ten skills, two from the start and eight more unlocked as you clear dungeons, and skills grow stronger simply by being used. Gear has real weight, which turns every armor upgrade into a small decision about what you can afford to carry, and mana-powered spells give you an escape hatch when a room fills with enemies.
It is a game built for short bursts on a handheld. Loading between floors is close to instant, there is no penalty for dying, and the soundtrack drew praise even from critics who found the rest rough around the edges. Reviews were mixed, pointing to a touchy camera and systems the game never bothers to explain, and that is a fair warning. Players who enjoy working out a loot crawl on their own terms will find around twenty hours of dungeon diving and plenty of room to experiment with builds.
This is a real PSP deep cut, the kind of small, niche action RPG that only a specialty publisher would bring over, and an intriguing companion on the shelf next to the system's better-known dungeon crawlers.

About the game
Warriors of the Lost Empire is an action RPG located in a fantasy land, built long ago by the great Emperor Hadrianus as a testament to his beautiful wife Antinos. But, when Hadrianus mysteriously locked himself in the temple, the city dwellers began to flee. The city became besieged by criminals and other worldly creatures, and now a special team of warriors have been tasked with investigating the lost city.
