Our grade: Near Mint. Pictured: this printing of the card. Every card ships triple-sleeved — a soft sleeve, a deck sleeve and a rigid top loader.
Item Description
Few cards make a bargain this stark. For two red mana, Warrior's Oath gives you an extra turn after this one, and at the beginning of that turn's end step, you lose the game. It is a promise to win now or go down swinging, and the tension of casting it is half the appeal.
Played straight, it is a finisher for aggressive red decks: an extra untap, an extra draw and an extra combat when your opponent is low enough that one more swing ends it. Played cleverly, it becomes a combo piece. Effects that keep you from losing, such as Platinum Angel or Angel's Grace, shrink the drawback to a footnote, and in Commander a well-timed Oath can compress a two-turn kill into one. Just make sure the math works, because the card keeps its word.
Warrior's Oath first appeared in Portal Three Kingdoms, the 1999 starter set drawn from the Chinese classic Romance of the Three Kingdoms, and Double Masters 2022 brought it to a far wider audience. This is the Double Masters 2022 printing, collector number 456, illustrated by Eric Deschamps, in etched foil. Its flavor text reads: "I swear this before all gods old and new: I will fight to my last breath."
