Game only: the cartridge in a protective holder, no box or manual. The photos are of this exact cartridge — look them over closely for its condition, packaging and details. Every cartridge's shell, label and board are checked for authenticity when it comes into the store, and it's tested before it's listed. It ships in a collector's bag or a hard plastic case.

Item Description

Few Atari 2600 games produce as much shouting as Warlords. Four players, four paddles, four castles in the corners of the screen, and one fireball ricocheting between them. Each warlord sits behind a wall of bricks with a shield to deflect the fireball, and every miss knocks another chunk out of somebody's defenses until the warlord inside is exposed and eliminated.

The paddle controllers make it sing. Your shield slides smoothly around the face of your castle, and the fun lies in angling a deflection to send the fireball screaming toward the weakest wall on the board while your friends scramble to patch the gap. Game variations change the rules, including options that let you catch the fireball on your shield and launch it at a target of your choice. Alliances form and break within a single round, and empty corners can be filled by computer-controlled warlords, so you can still play with fewer than four.

Warlords began as an Atari arcade game designed by Roger Hector, and the 2600 version was programmed by Carla Meninsky, who also wrote the console versions of Dodge 'Em and Star Raiders. It takes the Pong idea Atari built its business on and turns it into a four-way battle, which is exactly why players still name it among the great multiplayer games of the system.

Bring a second pair of paddles and this becomes the centerpiece of any Atari game night. It is the 2600 at its most social, and the game that turns a spare set of paddles from a drawer item into the most fought-over controllers in the house.
