Our grade: Near Mint. Pictured: this printing of the card. Every card ships triple-sleeved — a soft sleeve, a deck sleeve and a rigid top loader.
Pick a color, and the whole hive shrugs it off. As Ward Sliver enters, you choose a color, and all Slivers gain protection from it, which means they can't be blocked by creatures of that color, can't be targeted by its spells or abilities, and take no damage from its sources. Name the color of the removal-heavy deck across the table and your swarm suddenly becomes very hard to pick apart one creature at a time.
The catch is part of the charm: the text says all Slivers, not just yours, so an opponent's Slivers share the shield. In a dedicated Sliver Commander deck that rarely matters, and Ward Sliver gives the tribe something it often lacks, a blanket defense against targeted removal and against a single-color opponent's blockers. Five mana for a 2/2 is a real investment, so it shines as a mid-game play that locks in an advantage once your board is already wide.
Ward Sliver first appeared in Legions, the all-creature set from 2003, and its flavor text recalls the Riptide wizards whose magic wiped out the first wave of Slivers, only for the second wave to shrug those spells off like water. This is the Secret Lair Drop extended-art printing, collector number 617, illustrated by Pete Venters, in foil, a sharp way to show off a classic Sliver.
