Item Description
War's Toll is the card you cast when the table keeps sitting back with mana open and nobody ever commits. Once it lands, any opponent who taps a land for mana taps every land they control, so casting a small spell means giving up the counterspell or combat trick they were holding in reserve. And if any creature they control attacks, all of their creatures attack if able.
For four mana in red, that is a lot of disruption from a single enchantment. It punishes the control player who likes to pass the turn untapped, and it turns cautious one-creature pokes into all-out swings that leave an opponent's defenses empty for your counterattack. Pair it with sturdy blockers or cheap removal and you get to decide how those forced attacks end. In multiplayer Commander it fits red decks that thrive on chaos and table politics, and it is a pointed answer to the player who keeps stalling the game.
This is the Battlebond printing, collector number 187, illustrated by Dana Knutson, in non-foil. Battlebond was the 2018 set built for Two-Headed Giant team play, and the flavor text names Ravnica's Boros archangel: "Razia, archangel of war, demands total commitment."
