Item Description
Few cards scale as gracefully as Walking Ballista. The colorless Construct costs {X}{X} and enters with X +1/+1 counters, so you can cast it as a cheap early play or wait and make it huge. It also soaks up spare mana: pay {4} to give it another counter. And every one of those counters doubles as ammunition, because you can remove one at any time to deal 1 damage to any target.
That flexibility is why so many decks make room for it. It snipes tokens and X/1 creatures, finishes off planeswalkers, closes out a game by pinging a player, and turns into a machine gun alongside cards that add extra counters. Proliferate refills it, counter-doubling effects make each activation twice as valuable, and in Commander it gives ramp decks a colorless place to dump mana late in the game. It fits any color identity, which makes it easy to slot into whatever you are building.
This is the Double Masters printing, collector number 306, illustrated by Daniel Ljunggren, in foil, from the 2020 reprint set that packed two rares into every booster.
