Item Description
Ninjas in Magic are all about the switcheroo, and Walker of Secret Ways shows why that is so much fun. For {1}{U}, ninjutsu lets you return an unblocked attacker to your hand and put this 1/2 Human Ninja onto the battlefield tapped and attacking. When it deals combat damage to a player, you look at that player's hand, information that shapes every decision you make for the rest of the turn.
Its second ability is the real engine. For {1}{U}, during your turn, you can return target Ninja you control to its owner's hand, which lets you protect a Ninja from removal or reset it so it can ninjutsu in again next combat. That turns every Ninja's combat-damage trigger into something you can repeat. In Commander, it is a strong supporting piece for Yuriko, the Tiger's Shadow decks and any blue Ninja deck, where cheap evasive creatures set up a steady stream of ninjutsu swaps. Ninjutsu first arrived in Betrayers of Kamigawa, and this card carries that original Kamigawa flavor.
