Item Description

Venusaur-EX skips the evolution line entirely: it is a Basic Pokémon-EX with a hefty 180 HP, ready to hit the field without a Bulbasaur or Ivysaur in sight. Poison Powder deals 60 damage and Poisons your opponent's Active Pokémon, while Jungle Hammer hits for 90 and heals 30 damage from Venusaur, a sustain loop that makes it a slog to knock out. The tradeoff is the Pokémon-EX rule, which hands your opponent two Prize cards when it finally falls.

XY28 is the Black Star Promo version that came packaged in the 2014 EX Power Trio tins built around the Kanto starters. It features new artwork by Eske Yoshinob rather than the art from the main XY set, which makes it a distinct piece on a Venusaur collector's page and a fun companion to the Charizard and Blastoise of the same era.
