Item Description

Mitsuhiro Arita, the artist behind the Base Set Charizard, painted this Venusaur too, and the great flowering Pokémon framed in holofoil has anchored original-era binders since 1999. As the final evolution of Bulbasaur, it completes the Grass branch of the Kanto starter trio alongside Charizard and Blastoise, the three Base Set holos so many collectors chase together.

Venusaur played like a heavyweight, too. Its Pokémon Power, Energy Trans, let you move Grass Energy between your Pokémon as often as you liked during your turn, so you could load up whichever attacker needed it most. Solarbeam hit for 60 with four Grass Energy, backed by a sturdy 100 HP. Energy Trans can even shuttle Grass Energy onto a Base Set Charizard, whose Energy Burn turns it all into Fire, a combo that made trading for both feel like a master plan.

This is the Base Set holofoil Venusaur, card 15/102, a Stage 2 Grass Pokémon that evolves from Ivysaur. The Pokédex text on the card describes how the plant on its back blooms as it absorbs solar energy, keeping Venusaur on the move in search of sunlight.
