Item Description

Rip open a Jungle pack in 1999 and the holo slot might hand you one of Eevee's three evolutions. Jolteon and Flareon had their fans, but Vaporeon was the one that made Water players grin. Jungle was the first expansion after Base Set, with 64 cards and a run of 16 holos, and its Eeveelution trio ranks among the most fondly remembered holos of the original era.

On the table, this Stage 1 Water Pokémon has 80 HP and evolves from Eevee. Quick Attack does 10 damage for two Colorless Energy, plus 20 more on heads. Water Gun is the real draw: 30 damage for two Water and one Colorless, plus 10 more for each extra Water Energy attached beyond the cost, up to 20 extra. Load it up and it hits hard. Its Pokédex entry notes that it lives close to water and that its finned tail is often mistaken for a mermaid's.

This is the Jungle printing, collector number 12/64, a holofoil illustrated by Kagemaru Himeno, whose soft, painterly style gives the card a dreamy look that still stands out in a binder of first-generation holos.
