Our grade: Near Mint. Pictured: this printing of the card. Every card ships triple-sleeved — a soft sleeve, a deck sleeve and a rigid top loader.
Underworld Dreams has been punishing card draw since Urza's Saga, and Commander has given it more opponents to punish than ever. The rules are simple: whenever an opponent draws a card, Underworld Dreams deals 1 damage to that player. That includes the normal draw each turn, but the real fun starts with effects that make everyone draw.
Wheel effects that refill every hand, symmetrical engines like Howling Mine and forced-draw spells turn the triple-black enchantment into a steady stream of damage around the table. It is right at home in decks led by Nekusar, the Mindrazer, whose whole plan revolves around punishing draws, and it pairs nicely with other punisher effects in mono-black and Grixis builds. Opponents end up choosing between drawing less or bleeding for every card.
This is the Secret Lair Drop borderless printing, collector number 1298, illustrated by Mark Riddick, in foil. It comes from the Death Is Temporary drop, and Riddick, an artist known for metal-inspired pen work, gives the card a dark, intricate look that suits an enchantment fueled by nightmares.
