It ships in a collector's bag or a hard plastic case.
Phoenix Wright slamming a desk mid-combo, Frank West leveling up by snapping photos of his opponents, Rocket Raccoon setting traps on Galactus's doorstep: Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 is a gloriously ridiculous dream match, and on the PlayStation Vita it shrank to fit in your hands. It was a launch title for Sony's handheld, and Capcom promised the same content as the console versions, which meant the full roster of nearly fifty fighters in a portable package.
The heart of the game is three-on-three tag combat at breakneck speed. You build a team from Marvel's comic universe and Capcom's game library, call partners in for assists, chain launchers into aerial combos and swap characters mid-air to keep the damage flowing. X-Factor, the comeback mechanic that can turn a lone surviving fighter into a monster, was rebalanced for this edition and can now be activated in the air, and the aerial exchange system was expanded so a well-timed switch can drain an opponent's meter, build your own or simply add damage.
Ultimate added twelve new fighters to the Fate of Two Worlds lineup, and they are some of the most entertaining in the game: Strider Hiryu, Vergil, Nemesis, Firebrand, Frank West and Phoenix Wright on the Capcom side; Doctor Strange, Ghost Rider, Hawkeye, Iron Fist, Nova and Rocket Raccoon for Marvel. They join a cast that already ran from Spider-Man, Wolverine and Deadpool to Ryu, Chun-Li and Dante. The Vita version adds a touch-control mode that lets newcomers string together flashy attacks by tapping the screen, while the buttons and sticks give dedicated players the full move set.
Reviewers at the time praised how close the Vita version came to its console counterparts visually, and it is still remarkable to see a fighter this busy, with hyper combos filling the screen with lasers, fire and comic-book color, running on a handheld. It is perfect for learning team synergies on the bus or settling arguments about who would really win between Thor and Akuma: Capcom's most chaotic crossover squeezed into a pocket, with nothing important left behind.
Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 is a crossover fighting game developed by Capcom in collaboration with Eighting. It is an updated version of Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds. The game features characters from both Capcom's video game franchises and comic book series published by Marvel Comics. The game was released in November 2011 for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, and was featured as a launch title for the PlayStation Vita in 2012. In Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, players select a team of three characters to engage in combat and attempt to knock out their opponents. As an update, the game utilizes largely identical gameplay mechanics to the original. However, both the aerial combat and X-Factor systems, introduced in Fate of Two Worlds, have received adjustments. In addition to gameplay modifications and new playable characters, the game features several aesthetic changes. After the events of the 2011 Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami disrupted the development schedule for downloadable content for Fate of Two Worlds, the additional content was created into a standalone title, Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, for a discounted retail price.
