Item Description

Slide your fingers along the back of the Vita and the katamari changes shape. Push one way and the sticky ball squashes wide enough to roll over more objects at once; push the other and it stretches tall and slim enough to squeeze into tight spaces. That one idea, built around the system's rear touch panel, is the hook of Touch My Katamari, and it gives a familiar formula a tactile twist. You steer with a finger on the front touchscreen, or fall back on both analog sticks for the classic feel.

The rest is pure Katamari. As the tiny Prince, you start out collecting thumbtacks and snacks and keep rolling until the ball is big enough to swallow the furniture, then the street, then the neighborhood. This time the excuse is gloriously silly: the King of All Cosmos overhears a family decide that he is only as awesome as a school principal, and the slight sends him spiraling into depression. It falls to his son to roll up enough stuff to restore the royal ego, with the King's grandiose, self-regarding commentary hanging over every stage.

Namco Bandai released it as a Vita launch title, in Japan in December 2011 under the punning title Katamari Damacy No-Vita, and in the West in February 2012. Reviews landed in mixed-to-positive territory, and critics noted that it reuses levels and objects from earlier games in the series. What it offers in return is a compact, pick-up-and-play Katamari that fits short handheld sessions nicely.

It also carries a bit of history. Touch My Katamari was the last brand-new Katamari for a long stretch, as the series went quiet outside of remasters and mobile spin-offs until 2025. It is the Katamari made specifically for the Vita, and the only way to feel that rear-panel squash-and-stretch trick the way it was designed to be played.
