Kazuma Kiryu keeps trying to walk away from the yakuza, and these three games are where his retirement keeps falling apart. The Yakuza Remastered Collection gathers Yakuza 3, 4 and 5, the PlayStation 3 heart of Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio's saga, rebuilt for PlayStation 4 at 1080p and 60 frames per second. Together they form the long middle of Kiryu's story, the stretch between Yakuza Kiwami 2 and Yakuza 6: The Song of Life.

Yakuza 3 moves Kiryu to Okinawa, where he runs the Morning Glory orphanage, until a scheme to seize the land drags him back toward Kamurocho. Yakuza 4 widens the lens to four protagonists: the easygoing moneylender Shun Akiyama, the escaped death-row inmate Taiga Saejima, the corrupt cop Masayoshi Tanimura and Kiryu himself, each with his own fighting style. Yakuza 5 goes bigger still, with five playable leads, including Haruka on her path to idol stardom and disgraced former ballplayer Tatsuo Shinada, across five cities: Tokyo's Kamurocho, Osaka's Sotenbori, Fukuoka's Nagasugai, Sapporo's Tsukimino and Nagoya's Kineicho.

These remasters are more than a resolution bump. The scripts were re-translated, and most of the content cut from the original Western releases is back, including mahjong, shogi and the cabaret club minigames, while Yakuza 5 adds an option to switch karaoke lyrics between Japanese and English. That restores the full sprawl the series is known for: street brawls that spill into convenience stores, absurd side stories, hostess clubs and hours of distraction between chapters of serious, often heartbreaking crime drama.

The collection launched digitally in 2019, and the physical release containing all three games followed in February 2020 alongside Yakuza 5, a game that had been a digital-only release in the West until then. This listing is the PAL-region Day One Edition of that physical release, an appealing import for collectors following the Kiryu saga across regions and a handsome way to own the series' PS3 chapters as one set.
