Item Description

Bakersville runs on pets. The town at the center of this Game Boy Advance edition of The Sims 2: Pets is lined with adoption centers, pet hospitals, training spots, cafes and parks, and your Sim's job is keeping its cats and dogs happy, healthy and well trained. Published by Electronic Arts in 2006, it takes the pet expansion's big idea and reshapes it into something built for a handheld.

You still look after your Sim's own needs in the familiar Sims way, but the heart of the game is a more structured, goal-driven adventure with light role-playing elements. Caring for the town's animals earns money, money lets you take on more pets, and much of the day-to-day fun comes from making the rounds of Bakersville: visiting the adoption centers to take in new animals, the pet hospitals to keep them healthy and the training spots to teach them new skills, with stops at the cafes and parks along the way.

It is a different creature from the PC expansion, and that is the point. Instead of open-ended dollhouse building, you get a pocket-sized pet-care story with clear goals to chase, easy to dip into for a few minutes at a time. The GBA hosted a small family of Sims games, from The Sims Bustin' Out and The Urbz to The Sims 2, and this is the one devoted to dogs and cats, a natural fit for a GBA Sims shelf or anyone who spent the mid-2000s caught up in the pet-sim craze.
