Item Description

Wasp-shaped cameras are buzzing around Springfield, black vans are parked on every corner, and everyone in town is suddenly hooked on a new flavor of Buzz Cola. Homer is the first to notice something is off, which tells you how strange things have gotten. The Simpsons: Hit & Run follows the family as they untangle the conspiracy, and it is the rare licensed game that feels like a lost season of the show you can actually drive around in.

Radical Entertainment borrowed the open-city structure that was taking over the early 2000s and filled it with Springfield. You can walk or drive anywhere across three large areas of town, packed with locations straight from the series, and hop into a long list of vehicles from the show, from Homer's sedan to the Canyonero and the Plow King. Story missions mix chases, deliveries and races against the clock, and causing too much mayhem fills the Hit & Run meter until the police come after you. Homer, Bart, Lisa, Marge and Apu each take the lead in different levels, and every one of them has costumes to unlock.

Exploring pays off constantly. Collector cards are hidden all over town, wasp cameras are waiting to be smashed, and dozens of interactive gags reward poking at the scenery, many of them inside jokes for longtime viewers. The original voice cast is on board, the script comes from writers who knew the show inside out, and the dialogue is funny enough that players still quote it today. There is even a bonus racing mode for friends to play on the same screen.

Hit & Run built a following that has only grown, with fans asking for a remake or remaster year after year, and its reputation as the best Simpsons game ever made has held for two decades. Part of the appeal is that nothing has quite replaced it. No other game has let you roam Springfield this freely, and the Xbox version is a great way to do it on original hardware.
