Item Description
Amonkhet's -1/-1 counters made every creature a little more fragile, and The Scorpion God turns that fragility into fuel. For {1}{B}{R}, it puts a -1/-1 counter on another target creature, again and again. X/1s simply die, larger threats shrink turn after turn, and every time a creature with a -1/-1 counter on it dies, you draw a card. That trigger watches the whole battlefield, so your opponents' creatures count as well as your own.
It pairs beautifully with anything that spreads counters: wither and infect creatures, persist creatures that return with a counter already on them, and cards that sacrifice or trade off marked creatures. A 6/5 body for five mana hits hard on its own, and like its fellow Hour of Devastation gods, it shrugs off removal; when The Scorpion God dies, it returns to its owner's hand at the beginning of the next end step. In black-red Commander decks it acts as removal, card draw and a recurring threat in one legendary package.
This is the Secret Lair Drop printing, collector number 904, a foil-only mythic illustrated by Ricardo Cavolo, whose bold, highly stylized artwork gives the scorpion-headed god a striking new look compared with its original Amonkhet-block art.
