Item Description

Before Nat and Alex Wolff were known for their later music and film careers, they were the stars of Nickelodeon's The Naked Brothers Band, a mockumentary series about a band of kids playing their own songs. In 2008, THQ took the band on the road in a video game, released on Wii, PlayStation 2, PC and DS under the banner “Rock University Presents.”

The premise comes straight from the show. The band is hanging out on their tour bus when manager Cooper bursts in with news of a world tour, and from there the gigs take you to Miami, New York City and other stops along the way. You play along to the band's songs, including “Eventually” and “Body I Occupy,” with parts for vocals, drums, guitar, bass, keyboard and even cello, in a nod to Thomas's role in the band. Nat, Alex, David, Rosalina, Qaasim and Thomas all make the trip, so fans of the series get the whole crew.

Critics were rough on the Wii version, pointing to its presentation and controls, and nobody will mistake it for Rock Band. Its appeal lies elsewhere. This is a time capsule of late-2000s Nickelodeon, when TV shows routinely spun off into licensed games, and a piece of memorabilia for anyone who grew up watching the Wolff brothers. Music games built around a single kid-TV band are a strange, short-lived niche, and this Wii release is one of its more curious artifacts.
