Item Description
Somewhere past the halfway point of The Last of Us, in the overgrown ruins of Salt Lake City, Ellie spots a giraffe. Nothing about the scene involves combat or danger, yet players still talk about it more than a decade later. That moment says everything about why Naughty Dog's story hit so hard: in a brutal world of infected and desperate survivors, the quiet scenes between Joel and Ellie are what carry the weight.
Twenty years after a fungal outbreak collapsed society, Joel, a smuggler hardened by loss, is hired to escort fourteen-year-old Ellie out of the Boston quarantine zone. The journey across a ruined United States takes them through flooded cities, abandoned suburbs and Tommy's settlement in Jackson, with unforgettable detours alongside characters like Tess, Bill, and brothers Henry and Sam. Encounters with Clickers, blind infected that hunt by sound, turn every room into a test of nerve, and the ending is still one of the most debated in games.
Part I is a full remake rather than a remaster, rebuilt for PS5 with new models, lighting and animation, smarter enemy AI and reworked combat that make the stealthy, scavenging encounters more tense than ever. The DualSense adds haptic feedback and adaptive trigger resistance that change with each weapon, and an extensive suite of accessibility options, including audio descriptions for cinematics, makes the story playable by more people than before. Permadeath and Speedrun modes add new challenges for veterans, and the Left Behind story chapter, which follows Ellie and her friend Riley through an abandoned mall, is part of the package.
The original won an avalanche of Game of the Year awards in 2013, and its story was later adapted into HBO's acclaimed series. Gustavo Santaolalla's sparse, guitar-driven score still sets the tone perfectly. If you have only ever seen the show, or last played the PS3 original, this is the version that presents Joel and Ellie's journey at its most complete and most beautiful.
