Tekken 8 has a clear message for anyone who used to win by turtling behind a block: stop waiting and attack. Bandai Namco rebuilt the series' rhythm around aggression, and the result is the fastest, loudest and most explosive Tekken yet, a fighting game where momentum swings hard and rounds feel like brawls rather than chess matches.
The centerpiece is the Heat system. Once per round each fighter can trigger Heat, unlocking enhanced versions of signature moves, chip damage through blocks and a burst of pressure that forces the opponent to respond. Recoverable health adds another layer: part of the damage you take can be won back by going on the offensive, so even a fighter on the ropes has a reason to step forward. The old Screw mechanic gives way to Tornado hits for extending combos, and the familiar four-limb control scheme keeps the series' deep, character-specific move lists intact for players willing to dig in.
The launch roster brings back 32 fighters, among them longtime favorites like Paul, King, Nina and Yoshimitsu, alongside newcomers Azucena, Victor Chevalier and Reina. The cinematic story mode continues the Mishima saga with the latest chapter of the feud between Jin Kazama and his father Kazuya, and individual character episodes fill in the rest of the cast. For solo players, Arcade Quest is an avatar-driven campaign set in a stylized arcade scene that teaches fundamentals along the way, Special Style offers simplified controls for newcomers, and Super Ghost Battle lets you fight AI opponents that learn from the way you play.
Built on Unreal Engine 5, it is also a huge visual leap, with detailed character models, stages that react to the action and impacts that look as heavy as they feel. Tekken 8 was the first entry in the series to launch on home consoles rather than debuting in arcades, a sign of how much its world has changed, and with local split-screen versus still on the menu it plays beautifully as a couch fighter on PS5.

Tekken 8 is a 3D fighting game and the eighth main installment in the Tekken series, notable for being the first entry to debut on home consoles rather than in arcades.
