Game + manual: the cartridge and its manual, no box. The photos are of this exact cartridge — look them over closely for its condition, packaging and details. Every cartridge's shell, label and board are checked for authenticity when it comes into the store, and it's tested before it's listed. It ships in a collector's bag or a hard plastic case.
April O'Neil's apartment building is on fire, Foot soldiers are bursting through the walls, and before long Shredder has carried her off. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Arcade Game brought Konami's smash-hit arcade brawler home to the NES in 1990, with two players fighting side by side, and it sold more than a million copies by 1991. For a generation of kids, this was the Turtles game you played with a sibling or a best friend until the cartridge practically lived in the console.
Konami did more than shrink the arcade game down. Most of the original stages were extended, and the cartridge added new material of its own: a snowbound stretch ruled by Tora, a hulking blizzard beast, and an entirely new sixth scene capped by Shogun, a robotic samurai, both created for this version. The parking garage now ends with Baxter Stockman in his mutated fly form instead of the arcade's Bebop and Rocksteady rematch, and the cartoon's rogues' gallery keeps arriving until the final showdown with Shredder.
The action is simple in the best way. Pick Leonardo, Michelangelo, Donatello or Raphael, wade into wave after wave of color-coded Foot soldiers and enjoy the way enemies make their entrances, crashing through doors and dropping into the fight from every direction. Pizza restores health, and the Pizza Hut logos on billboards and pizza boxes throughout made it a famously early example of real-world advertising inside a video game, a detail that now feels like pure 1990 nostalgia.
It is the bridge between the original 1989 NES adventure and The Manhattan Project, and the version where Konami took the arcade experience and gave home players something extra. Two controllers, one couch and a city full of Foot soldiers: it is hard to imagine a better Turtles afternoon.
This version includes two new levels (the first part of Scene 3 and all of Scene 6), which feature new enemy characters, including two new bosses: Tora (a dog-like "blizzard beast") and Shogun (a robotic samurai), both characters created for the game. Most of the original stages from the arcade version were extended as well and the second half of Scene 3, the parking garage stage, replaces the arcade version's end battle with Bebop and Rocksteady with a battle against the mutated fly form of Baxter Stockman.
