Item Description

Nobody is left aboard Lunar Transfer Station Tacoma when Amy Ferrier arrives, yet the station is full of people. Its augmented-reality system recorded the crew's final days, and you can play, pause, rewind and fast-forward those scenes, following one crew member out of a room while another conversation carries on without you. It is the defining idea of Fullbright's second game, and it makes Tacoma feel like eavesdropping on a stage play performed in several rooms at once.

The year is 2088, and Tacoma sits at the Earth's L1 Lagrange point as an automated cargo hub between Earth and the Venturis Corporation's Zenith Lunar Resort. Venturis has sent Amy, a contractor, to retrieve the station's data and the core of its AI, ODIN, voiced by Carl Lumbly. As you work through each section, the six-person crew comes into focus: station administrator E.V. St James, engineer Roberta “Bert” Williams, network specialist Natali Kuroshenko, medic Sareh Hasmadi, botanist Andrew Dagyab and operations specialist Clive Siddiqi. Damaged oxygen tanks, a dead communications array and a dwindling clock set the stakes, and the question of what really happened grows sharper the deeper you go.

There is no combat. The tension comes from detail: personal messages in the AR inbox, the clutter of private quarters, a door code picked up from a recorded conversation. The studio behind Gone Home brings the same instinct for telling a story through objects and rooms, now in a sci-fi setting that feels lived-in rather than spectacular, and a backdrop of hypercorporations, union disputes and laws requiring human oversight of AI gives the drama an unsettling edge.

Tacoma reached PlayStation 4 in 2018, after its 2017 debut on PC and Xbox One, to generally positive reviews. It is a compact game best played over an evening or two with headphones on, a narrative adventure where the strongest moments are the quiet ones: a crew finding courage in each other while the air runs out.
