Magic: The Gathering single: Sword of Fire and Ice, from Modern Masters. Our grade: Lightly Played or better. Pictured: this printing of the card. Every card ships triple-sleeved — a soft sleeve, a deck sleeve and a rigid top loader.
Sword of Fire and Ice does a little of everything, all at once. The equipped creature gets +2/+2 and protection from red and from blue, and whenever it deals combat damage to a player, the Sword deals 2 damage to any target and you draw a card.
Every hit is a removal spell and a card draw stapled to an attack. Ping off a mana creature, finish a wounded planeswalker or send 2 extra damage at an opponent's face, then refill your hand. Protection from red shields the carrier from burn, protection from blue makes bounce and blue blockers useless against it, and the +2/+2 makes even a small creature a real threat. Few pieces of Equipment generate value as steadily, which is why it has been a centerpiece of Equipment decks since it debuted in Darksteel back in 2004.
This is the Modern Masters printing, collector number 216, illustrated by Chris Rahn, in non-foil. Modern Masters launched Wizards' Masters line of reprint sets in 2013, gathering celebrated cards from Modern's history into one draft-focused release.
