Item Description

Most Sword Art Online games hand you Kirito already at the height of his powers. Hollow Realization does the opposite: producer Yosuke Futami wanted a game where Kirito starts at level one, and that decision shapes everything about Aquria's 2016 RPG. It is the fourth game in the series and the follow-up to Lost Song, and it builds a fresh world for Kirito and his friends to grow into.

The setting is Sword Art: Origin, a new virtual world built as a restoration of Aincrad, in the year 2026, three years after the death game of the original story. Its land, Ainground, is one vast continuous floor rather than a stack of them, with the castle of Aincrad looming above. Kirito explores it alongside Premiere, a mysterious young AI at the center of the game's original story, and familiar faces including Asuna, Leafa, Sinon, Lisbeth and Silica.

Combat grows from the three-person parties of earlier games to a party of four, and it is designed to feel like the sword skills of the original story: chaining attacks, giving and taking direction from party members, and using the Switch system to rotate fighters into combos against the toughest foes. Named Monsters can appear without warning, turning a routine grind into a sudden fight for survival. The social layer is just as central. More than 300 NPC players roam Ainground, every one of them recruitable, and giving them equipment deepens your bond and makes them stronger, so building a favorite party becomes a long-term project.

That scale is the payoff. The main story runs roughly 30 to 40 hours, and chasing the level cap and every quest can stretch it toward 70 to 100. With Japanese voices, an opening theme by Luna Haruna and the series' cast front and center, it plays like a long, generous season of the anime that you get to steer, and on PS4 it has the room to feel like the MMO the story always imagined.
