Item Description
Every Suikoden asks you to gather the 108 Stars of Destiny, but Tierkreis is the one that dares to start over completely. It was the first Suikoden to step outside the continuity of the earlier games, with no returning characters and no history to memorize, which makes it a rare series entry that works as a true first Suikoden.
The story begins in Citro Village, where a young hero raised there and his friends Marica, Liu and Jale find themselves bearing the Mark of the Stars. That discovery draws the attention of the Order of the One True Way, a zealous power that believes every fate is already written and spreads its creed by force. Behind the Order lies the return of the One King, who wants to fold countless parallel worlds into a single unchanging one. The hero's search for allies leads to the Magedom of Janam, whose motives are never quite clear, and the title itself, German for zodiac, hints at the cosmic scale of the story.
Battles are classic turn-based Suikoden with a party of four, and the cast is big enough that building your favorite team is half the fun. Instead of the series' traditional runes, characters equip Marks. Recruitment is the series' great addiction and it is here in full: track down each of the 108 Stars, some through simple conversations and others through stranger favors, and watch your small band of friends from Citro grow into an army. The score gives each region its own character, and the main story scenes are voiced.
Released in Japan in late 2008 and in North America in March 2009, Tierkreis gave the DS a full-length Suikoden of its own. It is the series' parallel-world experiment, and the easiest door into the 108 Stars tradition for a newcomer.
