Magic: The Gathering single: Stoneforge Mystic, from Grand Prix Promos. Our grade: Near Mint. Pictured: this printing of the card. Every card ships triple-sleeved — a soft sleeve, a deck sleeve and a rigid top loader.

Item Description

Two mana, one unassuming Kor, and the best Equipment in your deck is suddenly in your hand. Stoneforge Mystic searches your library for an Equipment card when it enters, then offers a second trick: pay one generic and one white mana and tap it to put an Equipment card from your hand straight onto the battlefield, no casting required.

That second ability is what made the card famous after it debuted in Worldwake. Fetch an expensive piece like Batterskull or Kaldra Compleat, and a turn later the Mystic cheats it into play for two mana instead of five or seven. Fetch a Sword and your strongest threat is lined up for the next attack. For Commander players building Equipment or voltron decks, it is a two-drop that acts as a tutor and a ramp spell at once, and the 1/2 body is happy to carry whatever it finds.

This is the 2016 Grand Prix promo printing, illustrated by Johannes Voss, in foil, from the promo cards Wizards produced for its Grand Prix tournament circuit. The promo pedigree ties a famous card to Magic's big-event scene, a nice touch for players who like the cards in their deck to carry a little history.
