Item Description

A card best known for handing out swords and battle armor, painted by Rebecca Guay, whose soft, painterly fantasy work has graced Magic cards since the 1990s, is a lovely pairing of muscle and grace.

Mechanically, Stoneforge Mystic is all about consistency. When this 1/2 Kor Artificer enters, you may search your library for an Equipment card, reveal it and put it into your hand. Then, for one generic and one white mana plus a tap, it can put an Equipment card from your hand onto the battlefield without casting it. Tutor up a Sword, a Jitte or a huge living-weapon artifact, and the Kor smith handles the expensive part for you.

That combination is why the Mystic is a favorite in Commander Equipment decks and voltron strategies built around one heavily armed attacker. It turns a hundred-card deck that might never draw its key piece into one that finds it on turn two, and it makes cheating out a seven-mana artifact feel routine. Few two-drops do as much work as quietly.

This is the Secret Lair Drop printing, collector number 1253, illustrated by Rebecca Guay, in foil.
