Item Description

Starscream has always wanted the crown, and his Magic card is built around exactly that. On his Power Hungry side he is a four-mana black 2/3 flier: whenever you draw a card while you are the monarch, target opponent loses 2 life. The monarch already draws an extra card at the end of each of their turns, so holding the crown turns Starscream into a steady drain.

The twist is his other face. When one or more creatures deal combat damage to you, he converts into Starscream, Seeker Leader, a Vehicle with living metal, flying, menace and haste. When that form deals combat damage to a player and there is no monarch, that player becomes the monarch, and whenever you become the monarch, Starscream converts back. In other words, he hands the crown to someone else, waits for you to seize it, then returns to draining life, which is about as treacherous as Starscream gets. He can also be cast already converted with More Than Meets the Eye for three mana.

This is the Transformers printing, collector number 20, the borderless Shattered Glass version illustrated by Volta Creation, in non-foil. The Transformers cards came out alongside The Brothers' War, and this alternate treatment, named for the franchise's mirror-universe storyline, gives the Decepticon schemer a bold look for a monarch-themed black deck or a Transformers binder.
